At the wedding, a bridal shop owner noticed the dress and asked who had designed it. To my surprise, the bride’s mother pointed at me. The shop owner then approached me and asked if I could create a dress for her store. That single conversation changed my life and it is a moment that still to this day I call “My first taste of money”.
When she asked about pricing, I nervously but confidently quoted $400, to my surprise, she agreed and placed an order for two dresses. That month, I earned $800, and soon, other stores began placing orders as well. With a cost of $60 for the dress and $30 for the appliques, I was profiting $300 per dress. For two years, I built a thriving bridal business, learning the ropes of entrepreneurship along the way.
Inspired to take my passion further, I pursued a degree in fashion marketing and invested $20,000 to travel to China to launch my first private label. I expanded into manufacturing, working in China, Panama, Malesia, Dominican Republic, and Mexico, while participating in trade shows across the United States, I continued to grow. This experience taught me the intricacies of international trade and paved the way for my career as a business consultant for companies in various industries around the world.
My work has taken me across four continents, where I’ve trained and equipped business leaders. I’ve also collaborated with organizations such as NJ SBDC, SCORE, and Partners Worldwide to support business growth and development.
